Go to https://groups.io/g/Gauge3

NB: Unlike the Gauge One mms boards, you have to be a fully paid up Gauge 3 Society member to view the photos anyway.

Good to see several Members sign up this morning. Just a few words on the Members Messaging Service (MMS)

We are using the 'basic' (e.g. free) version, which does not allow sub-groups, so we cannot (for instance) have a Members Only area (such as this Forum does). There are also a number of other 'open' G3-related forums available to non-G3S Members, including Western Thunder & the G3 Facebook Group (quite apart from this one of course).

Groups.IO is an email-based service, so it is a 'Push' service (you get sent messages) - unlike most Forums which are 'Pull' services (you have to go and look at them). So opening up MMS membership would probably have more overhead in terms of moderation, as emails cannot be deleted once sent (unlike most Forum posts). Having just G3S Members to keep an eye on does make life a bit easier (most of the time!) remembering everything like MMS (and this Forum) needs someone to watch & take care of it.

The other advantages of 'Members Only' are that people can use their real names, exchange phone numbers, addresses, GTG dates and other personal details that they might not always want to do in more public forums. It also provides the G3S Committee with a very quick and inexpensive way to contact a large chunk of the G3S membership, without having to await the quarterly Newsletters. Not every G3S Member chooses to use MMS, some simply don't use the web at all (??), some prefer to browse other forums (as and) when they want - all kinds of reasons. But then many people won't use Facebook and other social media sites either. Everyone has their own preferences.

So MMS is available as an option to any G3S Member who wishes to join. Just go to the link given and ask.
