 I think that I have at last found a company who will make up rub-down-transfers. I have never been able to get on with the waterslide type.

They seem very helpful, versatile and reasonably priced!

I have ordered a selection for some of my carriages. If anyone is interested I'll let you know how I get on.

Have you heard of Rail Tec. They were great at making one offs when i did the NSE 121 railcar for Keith smith as no one does network south east transfers bigger than 0 scale. They will do the transfers that you want. They are on the web and do specialize in modern image but they will do other transfers too.
