GWR Four Wheel Siphon

The four-wheel Siphon was the first design of a vehicle to transport fresh milk over distance, the gaps between the planking kept the milk cool. The GWR designated brown vehicles to be part of passenger trains, thus Siphons made it possible for deliveries of fresh milk to cities daily.

The model is scratch built, the chassis is built from brass sheet, solebars made by punching rivet detail before folding to make the channel, the wheels are turned from steel discs with recesses to take the Mansell wheel detail. The body is made from styrene sheet and square section as well as the corner reinforcing irons.

Very nice Mike.

Representing the very earliest design of Siphon which were allocated Diagram O1.

Just to confuse matters, when the last was withdrawn, a later design of 6-wheel Siphon (built from 1889) was transferred from Dia.O2 to Dia. O1.
