P.S. I know where you could buy a PAIR of those coaches, professionally painted, for not much more than is being asked for a single bare brass coach!! Buyer beware, the demand for these coaches is not as great as you may think and unpainted pairs struggle to sell for the price being asked here for one. The cost of a professional paint job is a good 50% or more of the cost of a bare brass model.
I'd say they are rather overpriced!

Well, I've never owner one of these B set coaches but they seem to run well and are the best detailed G3 carriages on the market, with the possible exception of Kingscale. It was brave of GRS to get them made. I know bits fall off, but they still make a very nice and authentic train.

Agree Mike. They do have faults but no one else has ever offered anything like these since. As you say was a brave move at the time. Ive now got a total of 6 coaches one an all third conversion and another Mark converted to an auto coach. He did have to do a fair bit of soldering on that one as bits fell off when cutting the windows but it is, in my eyes, far better looking than any of the kit auto coaches.

To be fair it was falling apart before i started to bash holes in the sides and the end. I just "sealed the deal" when i went at it at the Moors Valley Railway Workshop. Well i was not about to have brass shavings all over my home carpets......
I did end up stitch soldering the sides and the ends far better than when they came out of the Chinese factory.
I recently had to partially rebuild the 2 chassis's for Roger Salisbury's B set coaches as they were breaking apart everywhere.
I agree, it was brave of GRS to do the RTR prairie and the B set however its not one of the best models they have produced. The 02, terrier, pannier, jinty, peckett and 14xx are all superior models albeit that you have to build them yourself. But then that is the fun of model railways as they are fun aren't they?
