Title: GER 2-4-0
Post by: MikeWilliams on Oct 31 2019 08:50
Just spotted this at Stroud Auctions Ltd on 8th November.  Recognisable as GER and with an estimate of £80 to £120 its cheap enough if anyone fancies the challenge!

Its live steam at the moment.

Wonderful collection of toys Mike - had a few of those.

I'm also afraid to say that my Dinkey tank (or something very much like the one for sale) got blown up by stuffing it full of bangers. Must have been around this time of year too!  :-)

Rose is a nice simple design - with its own charm. Peter Jones featured his version in "Building Small Steam Locomotives: A Practical Guide to Making Engines for Garden Gauges".

For such a relatively simple engine, I thought the builder had gone to some trouble to make that geared reversing lever though. Perhaps he found it needed it. Looks like some pipework is missing, which probably means there are a few problems to sort out. Not unreasonable price if it goes near the estimate however. I'm sure someone will think they can make a fortune re-selling it on eBay though.

Regards,

IanT

Thanks again Ian.  I see it is single cylinder, but Tim Casserlay's Alan Headech built NER 0-6-0 often run at GTGs convinced me that there's nothing wrong with a single cylinder - his always runs beautifully and looks fabulous too.

Lot 243 looks like a major automotive 'project' for someone!

I bought a car like that once Andy, a bare chassis, four pallets and a suitcase of bits!  Took five years to complete.
