Move the decimal point one digit to the left and that is about the value I would put on it!

John.

I'm sure it had a certain charm before the wheels fell off it John.

Hard to tell exactly what might be missing from the photos - cylinders, valve/motion work, axles (& eccentrics ?), part of the boiler pump, cab roof, tender wheels & axles and a few other bits. The boiler may well need replacing too of course. It's not quite as stupidly priced as some of the complete junk we see offered on eBay but it does need a lot of work and most likely a new boiler - so someone would need to really love it even at a lower price.

Btw - at first glance I thought this might be a variant of LBSCs 4F but looking closer it was probably outside cylindered.  There are often much better bargains at the AGM if you are quick enough...

Regards,

IanT

PS Keep posting them Ashley - always interesting to see these old engines and you never know, maybe there will be that elusive bargain there one day!  :-)

i think an 0-6-0 tender loco in 2.5" was southern maid ? the back head of the boiler looks like it's a properly flanged and well made item, perhaps the boiler is a commercial one and maybe the best bit!

Yes, it's a Southern Maid with Stevenson valve gear instead of the standard slip eccentric. It was obviously a running loco that was probably stripped down for some work and as often happens, half the bits have got lost.

What's there looks well made, including the boiler, and would be well worth restoring. Certainly worth what they are asking for it.

I think you have probably had enough little 'orphans' follow you home for a bit of TLC John, without needing another boiler to feed.

:)

That's very true Ian but sometimes it's difficult to resist the temptation  :)

Yes, I thought briefly about this but managed to resist it John. Unfortunately, I have far too many other little boilers needing my attention without adding further to the list. It's probably a bargain if the boiler is good but there always seem to be a few unexpected "surprises" that pop up somewhere with these things, more than just the obviously missing bits.

Quick question for you whilst you are looking at this thread. How do you attach your 'PEEK' into your screw regulators? As simple 'plug' inserts or do you thread them. Any further sealant used?

IanT

They are threaded into the body. The one for Helen is 7/32" x 32. I find the bearing grade PEEK that I use takes threads very well. It's really nice to machine as well. I use Blue Loctite (threadlocker and sealer) for sealing threads on fittings etc.

Doh! That should have been 7/16" x 32!
