Title: Metal coach bodies
Post by: MikeWilliams on Aug 30 2020 21:34
Described as G Scale, these could be right for Gauge 3.  Look interesting.  Anyone know what they are?

Were any of the Midland 6-wheel coaches unpanneled?

Ashley, don't think they're Dave Owen's, last time I saw him he was down to a Pavie loco and  a few point levers.

They seem rather narrow for G3, at only just over 6 1/2 feet wide.  At first I thought they might make up a single BR Suburban composite with brake, but the flat sides and narrowness make me change my mind.

You are right Tim.  I calculated it at 7ft 6in wide, but made an error.  never was good at quick mental arithmetic!

They look nicely made though and I wonder whether G3 carriages could be made the same way.

Apparently they are aluminium and the vendor knows nothing more about them.

Rolled aluminium coach shells have been used in Gauge 1 for some years and a major producer has been a chap called Peter Alliot. I believe his process involves broom handles.

He doesn't have a website of his own, but this site here contains a little info: https://www.stevegoldingmodels.com/coaches-and-locomotive
