Title: Gauge 3 clockwork loco at auction
Post by: MikeWilliams on Feb 24 2011 11:45
I notice an auction house by the name of Moore Allen & Innocent have a sale on 4th March which includes:

"Lot 86.  A 2½" gauge tin plate clockwork locomotive, an '0' gauge 4-4-0 steam locomotive in green and black livery, overpainted, and a German '0' gauge 0-4-0 steam engine in maroon livery, overpainted (3)
£50-80"

I wonder what the Gauge 3 clockwork locomotive is?  If anyone can find out please let us know.  Clockwork was not uncommon in Gauge 3 during the 1920s but so rarely seen today.

There are three other 2 1/2" gauge items that may be of interest too:

Lot 104         A 2½" gauge Lowko tender for "Great Western" in green and lined livery, and a similar tender "GNR" in green and black livery (ILLUSTRATED) £40-60

Lot 133     A Bing 2½" gauge Midland Railway luggage and guards van in red livery with black painted roof £60-80

Lot 134         A Gustav Bing 2½" gauge LSWR guards van £50-80

The sale is near Cirencester by the way.

Thanks Ansy.  Both Ian Harper and I contactd the auctioneers about the clockwork engine and it is, well, to be polite, nothing any serious modeller would look at, even for parts.  It looks like very thin plate and the mechanism is extremely flimsy.
