Title: Southern wagon books
Post by: hornbeam on Feb 16 2013 11:26
Hi

Anyone got any recommendations on a good book covering SR vans? I'm looking at building a bogie scenery type van and am looking for either some good puctures and or drawings. I also have a feeling these were regarded as passenger stock?

"A Pictorial guide to Southern Wagons and Vans", Terry Gough/Kestrel Books ISBN978-1-905505-04-3 has three useful photos plus a basic 4mm drawing of diagram 3182 (built 1938 / 49).

There is nothing on scenery vans/bogie CCts in "Historic Carriage Drawings Vol 3" (covers a selection of NPCS) but there is a drawing and photo of the corridor luggage vans (the bogie version of the familiar 4-wheel GUV/PLV).

Being NPCS, these vans do not appear in Vol 4 of "An Illustrated History of Southern Wagons" (OPC) which covers standard SR goods stock (open wagons, vans, etc.).

I don't have "An Illustrated History of Southern Coaches" (OPC) but that may have useful photos.
The Oakwood Press books on Maunsell and Bulleid stock don't have any photos or info on the scenery vans.

John.

Bogie scenery vans are covered in "An Illustrated History of Southern Coaches" by Mike King (OPC).
There is a 4mm scale drawing on page 206 and pictures of vans with both type of bogie used.
