Some of you will know, but many probably don't, that a small group in the Huddersfield area are keen to build a few of the Woodhead electrics in G3 (and possibly in G1).
After a lot of research we decided it was a possibility and so started trials.

A number of areas have been experimented with to get the best but straightforward scheme to do this:

Body - Just about sorted out. Body shell is mainly laser cut with added skin, plus 3D printed details or small parts.
Roof - well on the way, mainly 3D. Pantographs being experimented.
Bogies - these work out to be very difficult. Non-standard, so being constructed, probably to fit Tim Gleed-Owen motor-gearboxes. Various options being looked into.

We hope that a prototype will be ready in early 2020. (But note that we've been at it most of 2019 and we've found that it's more difficult than thought!).

I haven't time just now, but I plan to add some photos of the work so far, probably next week .

Initially this project was to provide the few that we wanted, but others have shown interest, so we may make a few available as well.
If you are really interested in that, please let me know.

As I said, I'm going to upload some pics of the bodyshell. I'll just try one for starters to see how it does it.

Ignore the bogies on these as they aren't ready yet so it's standing on some loaned coach bogies with completely the wrong wheelbase and centres, just to get a better height.
Some of the 3D items, like the roof, have been produced in black, the rest is white so far.

That seemed to work, so here's a few more.

Hope they look OK!

Bruce, it will be great if you can bring it down to the AGM in Feb, and in whatever state of development, with or without bogies.  It should create quite a lot of interest I would say!
Thanks, Tim

I have been working out whether I could make it down to the AGM. It's a very long trek for me, being up north, but I would like to get to one of these. It was always touch and go, but we've had a death in the family so that's put the lid on it I'm afraid.

I'll hopefully load some more photos when they are available.

Sorry to hear of this Bruce, but time for family matters to take precedence.
Best wishes, Tim
