Could not resist this. The French company SNCF has spent £12bn on trains that are too wide for the majority of their platforms so now a major project is under way to correct all the platform faces that need rebuildin before they can be pressed into revenue earning service.

They designed the trains around the "modern" platforms without regard of the "older pre-modern" platform faces which still exist on the network, probably at intermediate or less important stations.

Apparently it is a classic case of the rail operator being separated from the train company because RFF the national rail operator gave the wrong dimensions to the train company SNCF.

Although it can & did happen here in UK, does anybody remember when GWR 4-6-0 King class locos & possibly others toured around England whacking platform edges?

Have a feeling that when they started using the class 165 DMU's on the north downs route they had the issues with platforms.
