John Candy

After my experiences with the Fowler 4F and then the Dean Goods, I swore I would never again buy a GRS loco kit.

Well, I have... not one but two!

They arrived today,  a GWR 1361 0-6-0ST and 8750 0-6-0PT.

When I unpacked the 1361, I was pleased to find that the chassis is supplied 90% assembled.
My delight soon turned to disappointment when I started checking the rest of the contents of the box.
Apart from the usual (long) list of missing parts, the advertising blurb describes the kit as having a fully detailed boiler backhead and cab.
The 1361 class had a round-top firebox but the kit contains a Belpaire shaped backhead (in fact it is identical to that supplied with the 2021PT kit).
Additionally, there is no indication as to where the other cab parts are intended to be fitted (reversing quadrant/lever, brake handle, etc.).

Has anyone please got a drawing of the cab layout or even a photo of the backhead of preserved 1363 (at Didcot but currrently in bits for overhaul).

I haven't yet started checking the contents of the 8750 box but shall be very surprised if all the parts are there.

John.

My fellow Members, ask not what your Society can do for you, ask what you can do for your Society.

Ye of little faith but speaketh the truth!

When I bought my second 02 kit now No.32 Bonchurch and more importantly an 0-4-4T. It came minus one of the rear axle sets and all of the axle bushes for the bogie.

Still, "no one else.....

In their defence they did send out the missing parts, but the parts control checks are usually lacking in most of GRS's kits.
