Progress has been slower than expected as result of domestic demands on my time and the (too) hot weather.

The body above solebar level is now complete, apart from the fixing of the brass door handles which will be left until the frequent handling of the body ceases.

On the basis that a picture is worth a thousand words, the attached photos will show the general method of construction adopted. Note the interior ribbing of the roof (refer to earlier notes concerning assembly of the STL files) and the bars on the windows. The windows consist of three layers... glazing/ retention frame/bars.

Bogies for the LMS D2023 van.

My original intention had been to modify a set of Walsall Model Industries LMS 9ft cast side frames which I have in my spares box and bolt to a folded steel inner frame but those are the riveted type whereas my model requires the later welded type.

I decided to prepare files for the welded type and to use bogies which (apart from the wheels and brass bearing inserts) are entirely printed. I had experimented with the printed monobloc three years ago in connection with GWR stock (as reported elsewhere in this forum), files for the "American" 8ft and 9ft equaliser , Dean 8ft 6ins and Collett 7ft being produced but not put into production at that time. 

The axles run on inside bearings and the sideframes are to be glued and/or screwed to the outriggers.

The printed parts for the LMS bogie are shown laid out in the photos.
The monobloc onto which the frames are mounted is extremely rigid and strong.
The axles will be sprung using steel wire screwed into the monobloc.
The STL package is available to G3S members to download upon request.

These photos illustrate how the monobloc bogie has been sprung using 1.5mm piano wire.
The shaped wire (which bears down on the inside axleboxes) is located by a central fulcrum screw which has a peg (immediately above) to retain the wire. To prevent the wire rotating and slipping off the axleboxes, u-shaped guides are fitted below the outriggers. This method both springs and equalises, since the wire can rock around the fulcrum.
The third photo shows a bogie under the D2023 van.
