Maybe some of you are using these, available from many eBay sellers for around £8 delivered.

Advertised as being suitable for planes and buggies using brushed motors up to 30 amps 8-15 volts. Has reversing, braking and a BEC.

Could be suitable for a 12 volt train motor?:-

Anybody tried one?

Over the years I have tried several of these cheap Chinese ESCs.  Mostly they work OK, but beware total lack of information, eccentric English instructions.  Differences between types include current capacity (up to 100s of amps, voltage -many are for 2 or3 lipo cells- reverse capability, if they don't have it, you will have to provide a reverse switch function.  I have had good service from an esc that was 2 for £5.

Suck it and see!
