We should perhaps recognise how much GRS have done to promote G3 and their bravery in developing and promoting their models.   A natural extension of this maybe to promote exclusivity through pricing  Looking at prices charged by commercial builders the price may reflect the cost of production.   Whether such prices are achievable in the second hand market is a different question.  A look back through GRS adverts in the society magazine tends to show high prices but few sales based on how long items are listed for. 

The highlighted listing is not alone and I'll leave others to consider such as a Cliff Barker buffer stop at £150 https://www.grsuk.com/shop/cliff-barker-gauge-3-buffer-stop-M24893 and various G3 wagons.

John, you may be surprised and, I suspect, a tad disgusted at the asking price, but we are a small and specialised market and the fact is that there is no set scale. Prices are governed by what the buyer is willing to pay. In the past I have built commission models in O Gauge and bought a few at auctions, and that has been my experience throughout. The O Gauge market is much bigger than G3, but still very small on the global scale.

This model may seem vastly overpriced to you and me, but who knows, it may be just what someone else is looking for.

Yes, I saw the buffer stop but assumed that was a typing error..... a new one from Cliff is a third of that price!
If that is correctly priced, they must think we are mugs!

The price of that loco is comparable to a brand new live-steam Kingscale Pacific ..... and many secondhand examples realise less.
The quality of the build is not "top notch" (just take a close look at the outside of the cab) and the paint job is nothing to write home about.

Their secondhand wagons don't seem bad.  £125 for a built and finished Midland open, when the Slaters kit now costs £121 seems cheap.  We probably all remember when they were introduced at £98 but times have changed.  Whether they sell remains to be seen.

But I do agree with John that the 2-8-0 is not very nice (in my opinion) and far too expensive.

Whether anybody will buy them is another mater.   They were purchased by the seller for much less as a joint lot a few days ago in a public auction.

There were some museum quality scratch built wagons on ebay last week which fetched not much more than half that figure, but I guess if he knows nothing about then and just tries to make money he won't know.

Seems he makes a habit of buying things, splitting into components and selling the bits, hoping to make more than he paid for the whole - such as his BMW 328!
