I was looking through old magazines recently and you know what it's like - get side tracked and never find the thing you are looking for!
Well, February 1939 Model Railway News reported that a correspondent had sent them a photo taken on 8th October 1938 of a wagon at Cardington sidings. Not only was it still in pre-Grouping LNWR livery, but looked very smart and clean. The Editor comments on several other recent examples including an "LBSC wagon in the Glasgow area 18 months ago", and "GC and G&SWR wagons" too.
Might be worth remembering when you next paint a model wagon!

Or maybe there was a lot of paint to use up.
There are all sorts of quirks of liveries on locos and rolling stock.
Two terriers spring to mind. W13 Carisbrooke was painted in SR malachte green as there was enough paint spare and when she reurned to the mainland she had the SOUTHERN patch painted over and BRITISH RAILWAYS put on in place on the side tanks as well as being given her mainland number 32677. The other one was when in the paint shops at Brighton during the 1950's the discovery of some original Stroudley Improved Engine green led to the repaint of terrier 32635 as the Brighton Works Terrier.

Mike, is there any chance of scan of the said wagon / article; you've got my email address.
Also, to any MIDLAND types out there, do you have any pics etc of MR wagons / vans still in MR livery in the 1930's livery?

So far as I am aware this is out of copyright, so here it is. I'm sure our forum owner/moderator/legal guru will correct me I am wrong.

Many thanks Mike!
