These are superb Gavin.  I might try a guards eye view video myself :)

Presumably, this was the unofficial GTG which took people away from going to Dick A's?

Sorry Ian and Mark, but I disagree.

So far as I am aware this was not an unofficial anything and doesn't deserve to be criticised.  The owner invites friends from time to time for an informal afternoon's chat and run.  It is nothing to do with the G3S and I doubt very much whether many of the normal GTG visitors would have gone here instead.

Having been to one of these in the past the people that are there are friends of the host and when we were there I recognised only two other people as occasional GTG visitors.  It may be the heavy rain on Saturday put people off.  Surely having a private Gauge 3 line in one's garden doesn't mean you must advertise it to all and sundry via the Society and let the Society dictate when you may run on it?

These gardens are private and hosts should be encouraged to attend other GTGs and be made welcome within, the Society, not criticised.

A very nice Gauge 3 Garden Railway - thank you for sharing it with us Gavin (and for the clear reference to Gauge 3 in the video title!).

As Mike says, the owners of these railways are entitled to invite whomever they wish to their gardens - and if some choose (for whatever reason) to keep the 'invite list' to a selected few, then that is absolutely their choice to make. It does underline however, how grateful (and respectful) we should be towards those people who do host our GTGs.

A matter of unintended semantics on Mikes part I suspect, but the comment "and let the society dictate when you may run on it" is unfortunate. Each year, the Society "invites" potential GTG Hosts to submit their preferred dates and then simply co-ordinates with them to try to avoid any scheduling conflicts. There is no "dictating" involved that I'm aware of.

But to re-iterate. A very nice example of a "scenic" Gauge 3 garden railway.

IanT

You are right Ian.T and thank you for the correction.  What I meant was only that there has been inference that it shouldn't have clashed with a G3S event whereas its a free world.  I got a bit carried away, so thanks for pulling me up.

I was pretty sure I knew what you intended to say Mike - but others may have read a whole lot of other things into it. But I'm probably getting just a tad over-sensitive myself at the moment. Hopefully things will start to calm down a bit now and we can get on with some modelling.
