Has anyone got a 'drawing' (e.g. template) of a 3-way switch?
I've used Templot in the past (to design simple turnouts and crossings) but I will admit that I've never found it easy and I always have to 're-learn' it when returning to it. I'm sure Templot is a powerful tool but I just don't find it very intuitive I'm afraid (and there is no 3-way available that I'm aware of either).
Anyway - anyone got something they can share?
Regards,
IanT
Ian,
I will email you a Templot.
John
Excellent John - just received it - thanks.

IanT
Below are two of the three 3-ways I have made.
Your Templot I sent is the design for the second (brass rail) example shown.
The earlier two were in stainless rail to the first design below (that file was lost when my PC crashed and died in September).
John.
Does anyone know if there are any instructions on how to build a (any) turnout from scratch?
Jon
In theory it should be fairly straight forward Jon - but I chickened out in the end...
:-(
IanT
Sorry Jon - just noticed that word "any" - thought you wanted a 3-way...
Yes, there are a number of places where this is described. But first as a useful "turnout" overview, I suggest folk look at these two useful documents from the 'O' Guild....
http://www.gauge0guild.com/manual/02_D2_2_1_1.pdf and this one;
http://www.gauge0guild.com/manual/02_2_2_Pointwork.pdf
For the actual build, this C&L guide describes the general way to approach it, just adapt it for the track components you are using, presumably CB in your case (I still use G3S w/m chairs myself - just a personal preference) but the general idea/work sequence is the same...

Hope this helps...

Jon,
Cliff Barker has (or at least did a few years back) have a video link on his website showing construction.
On my website www.g3madesimple.org.uk there is a download describing how I produced a batch of Code 330 rail turnouts to match the Tenmille rail used by GRS.
http://www.g3madesimple.org.uk/code330turnouts.pdf
I have prepared Templot files which can be printed to produce a 3-way template (I used them to build three using Cliff Barker Code 250 rail and timbers)and will email them if of any use to you.
Regards,
John.
John
That is very kind of you. I'm thinking of a simple left or right or a 'Y' turnout.
Jon
Jon,
I have uploaded template for a 12ft radius "Y" to
http://www.g3madesimple.org.uk/templot-12ft-Rad-Y.pdf
If you print it out set to "full size" or 100%, according to what your printer offers (you will need several A4 sheets), then check it has printed correctly to scale by using a track gauge.
Regards,
John.
P.S. If you are feeling adventurous after building that, I can send you the template for the 6000mm radius 3-way!
John
Thank you, I'll take a look at it.
Jon
Thanks for the link John I've been meaning to draw this in Templots for months.
