Great Eastern locos had unpainted steel handrail knobs. does anyone know where I could get hold of some handrail knobs that look as though they're made of steel? For my current project, the E22, I only need 5 short ones (prototype 2.5") But I will need longer ones (4.5") in the future
Well no takers thus far Geoff. :)
The obvious answer to your question is to turn them from mild steel (or perhaps stainless). The question then becomes how best to do this - and I suspect the answer is to make a small form tool. I'm not very fond of form tools generally but sometimes they can make sense.
If you cannot do this yourself - then there may be commercial versions available - albeit they may be over-scale. Do you have the prototypical dimensions?

Here's the link to the table of hand rail knobs which was on the "old" G3S website (the site is still in place).

It has been there since 20.02.09 (under the "Product Reviews" menu item)!!!!!

P.S. If you want to access one of these "old" pages you need to enter http://lakes-pages.com/gauge3orguk/ before the page name (otherwise you will be transferred to the new website).
