I'm looking a modelling a IOW coal train to go with my Terrier tank. Looking online it seems that most wagons were the LBSC designed 10 ton open wagons. I wanted to check that no one makes these as a kit and also, as my wagon knowledge is very limited what available kit would be best to purchase and modify? Alternatively I'm considering scratch building the body but am not keen on making a load of strapping over and over again. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
P.s I e attached a pic of a modified Brandbright coach that will form part of a three coach push pull set. Not a scale model but I think it captures the 'feel'.

I've scratched built a number of LBSCR wagons from styrene but always had to have the straps etched by some kind soul. There is such a good and varied range of styrene flat out there that could be cut for straps. Mike Williams supplies an open wagon but, I expect that you know that already. I have some simple(ish) drawings of wagons that you could have if you think that they would be of any help. Most are to G3 scale, just let me know.

Simon,
If you need to build more than a couple, I suggest you make one side and one end from plastic card , make a mould and cast in resin. It is not difficult.

John.
Thank you both. Jon, I take it your referring to the D1 kit mike does?

Simon,
At least three other G3S members model IOW, though two do not use this forum. I know some have used my D1 kit for IOW but apparently there was at least one five plank wagon similar to my Gloucester wagon. though the cornerplates are different. Didn't they also have some of the large LBSC vans?

If its books on the iow rolling stock you want i have the all at home.
I have built a lot of IOW wagons and coaches in 00 as well as Gauge 3.
Drop me line if you want anything specific.
Additionally the LNWR short bolster wagons can be kit-bashed into the LBSC bolsters. Some years ago i purchased 5 of these and Mike was able to supply the correct buffers and running gear so i could modify each of the wagons.
I have also built one of the hoop bar wagons as per Mikes kit but without the hoop bar as the IOW did not have the bars fitted.
Some of the other 5 plank wagons i have are in fact scratch built from plastic card and using Williams running gear. I have also built a guards van and a closed LBSC 10 ton van out of plastic card.
