Title: O & K foster yeoman hopper
Post by: keith Bristol on Aug 17 2012 15:38
Subtitle
Something a little different and up to date.

Having decided I needsome modern image wagons and a good friend sending me a scale plan of the O&K hopper wagon  used by Foster Yeoman running out of Merehead quarry near me, I have progressed a 102t hopper wagon.

I intend to make a rake of 10 of these with buckeye couplers between the wagons. The bogies are self built with wheels supplied from GRS. With a scale length of 580mm they make a nice lump.

The body is done and awaiting a sizeable supply of silicone to make the mould. Then the body will be resin cast to produce the ten required.

Where am I? the spacer bars for the bogie have been ordered, the bearings are coming all 80 that I need and next month will see the order placed for the buffers, silicone and the 20 pairs of GRS wagon wheels required.

Hope you enjoy the pictures and any comments?

Regards

Keith

All you need now is a Foster Yeoman class 59 and you would be complete

Keith,

Mike H would find a couple of rakes of these great for his 'Shed'; sometimes see a Class 66 on a similar train going up through our local station towards Staines and Hounslow.

Interesting Keith,

How are you holding the bogie sideframes apart - do you have a crossmember, maybe laser cut to match the sideframes?

Hi Mike,

I have on order a CNC machined crossmember, this allows a spacer with nylon washers to be used to achieve the correct spacing to the body.

I should have the pictures available later this week.

With all modern image stock being bogie I have my CAD file properties box set such that all I do is define the wheelbase in the attached spreadsheet and it automatically defines the plate.

Hello Keith,

Any progress on your  CNC machined crossmembers?

I have plans for using your Gloucester bogies on a 100 ton tanker and would like some help with the transomes and bogie mounts - have you any photos of the completed bogie?
