Can anyone suggest a relatively simple way to make or a source of fall plate hinges, please?  It's the last thing that I need to make/buy for the tender that I'm working on.

How about Brass Piano hinges?

If they were hidden below the checkered footplate they might be useful to you.

Thanks for the tip but, I think that they would be far too big.

If you search for 'dolls house hinges' you will find the likes of these 8mmx10mm hinges https://www.temu.com/uk/30-pcs-small-brass-mini-hinges-for-wooden-box-jewelry-box-dollhouse-miniature-furniture--replacement-golden-hinge-screws-g-601099572946345.html

Probably other sizes and types.

Thank you for the reply but I think that these are too large as well.

I attach a photo of Pendennis Castle cab with the fall plate lifted to show the hinge fixings (second pic to follow showing larfpger area). Maybe you could fabricate one from brass tube and strip. Or maybe even a section cut out from a larger hinge.

I am working at Didcot on 4th Feb so could take a better picture and/or measure the hinge if I get a chance.

Second picture as promised.

- get a piece os small diameter brass tube the length of the fallplate and a piece of brass round that fits the tube
- cut the tube into 3 - the outer pieces shorter than the middle piece
- position the tube so that the outer 2 pieces are on the end of the cab and the middle piece on the end of the fallplate
- solder them in place so that they are all in line
- insert the brass round into the 3 pieces of tube and you have a hinge

I did this when making some G3 LMS articulated bogies and it worked well

Hello Ian
Sorry but I've only just seen your message. The pictures of the hinges on that loco remind me of lbscr wagon hinges. I have used them before on a fall plate but I needed something different. I came across the idea of the ones in the picture on a model boat website and have taken that and made up my own.  The fall plate on Lion is on the tender. Not knowing any different, I've put them on the tender of this project.

Couldn't remember how to attach pictures.
