Hi John,

Is there some sort of G Scale event at Stafford on Sunday?  I think the Society has a stand there too?  I've never been to a G Scale event - do they have much of interest to us G3 modellers?

Congratulations on taking over the job of G3S sales.  I spotted your name and address near the foot of a page in the latest Newsletter, so assume it has actually happened.  Well done.

There are a number of us at Swindon this weekend.

Hello All

For those cursed with Swindon , Sorry folks it's a bit far for a Sunday out . However Stafford I hope is viable .

Well, its now Monday so dutifully reporting back.

The show followed much the same attendance profile as with our AGM's - A good number of people in the morning, getting a bit quieter by lunchtime, and by the time their AGM started there were more people behind the stands and layouts than in front!

Was there much of interest to G3 modellers? In general, no, in my opinion - although I think most of us managed to spend some money (mine was on some tools at Squires).
Was there much interest in us? Yes - for many people it seemed to be the first time they had seen G3 models close-up (possibly having seen magazine articles etc previously) and lots of leaflets were taken.
Is it a 'market' for us to tap in to? I'm not sure - my impression was that most G Scalers like buying bright plastic RTR and running it  - with not much interest in building things themselves. But if more RTR G3 becomes available, then maybe.....?

Andy,

Your observations would seem to confirm my personal view that a "turnkey" solution would be the only way to popularise G3.
The difference between "us" and "them" is that we are true modellers and/or engineers, whereas "they", in the main, just want to "play trains".
It then raises the question as to whether such a process would really benefit the serious G3 modeller, since the market for the true model (as opposed to toys) may not dramatically expand and provide the impetus for greater trade support?

Regards,
John
My fellow Members, ask not what your Society can do for you, ask what you can do for your Society.

The thing that caught both Rachel's and my attention was a little layout Snipe Fen modeled I belive at 1" : 1ft as an estate railway , A bit Haywood ish but realy well done . Modeled by a lady too would you belive ! Realy showed the toy train brigade up that did .
