Thank you for the info.
My line will be passing under overhanging trees and shrubs for much of the route, so drips will make it a hostile environment, both for electrics and anything liable to rust.

Thanks, I will carry out some experiments with memory wire when the time comes to install the pointwork.

Would definitely be in favour of the DC option using a car battery for power if I do use LGB motors.

I controlled my LGB point motors with a portable control panel which I built and fixed to a wooden stool. Power comes from underground cables from a plug pack in my shed. These terminate at all weather car/trailer connectors. At the start of each running session, I bring the control panel out from the shed and just plug it in.

I have also attached a wiring diagram.

Hmmmm...

I do not know how the electrical regs in Oz work but for UK usage you would have to use a bridge rectifier or a centre tapped transformer. That type of single ended supply is no longer "kosher" under EU regs from 2005. You could get away with it provided no-one lifted the lid....

The model engineering lot use air to shift points , have a look at Parkside in Burnley or the Engineres Emporium in the midlands . Hope this helps .

While searching for something else ("Jigstones"), I found that Sunset Valley do have a UK agent for their  pneumatic control system, it is "Back2Bay6".
