Thanks for this. Would like to try for it. Do you think these are proper bogeys, not the usual bent metal unsprung slotted type normally supplied by Curlew? Not having done this before should I just 'phone Vectis and leave a bid?

Hi Robert,

Sorry  - I have no expertise or experience to answer any of your questions.
The label on the bogies says
Brandbright RSA38
Great Western 9ft Wheelbase.

Looking at the picture on the box and at the NG bogies on the Brandbright website, I'm guessing that they have cast whitemetal sideframes fixed to brass cross-members.

I'm sure someone else on here must have used or seen some Brandbright bogies (I never even knew that had made any), or can advise on how similar a GWR bogie is to an SR bogie.

I have never tried buying through Vectis either.

The Brandbright bogie kit seems a bit before my time as I never knew they made a bogie either. Knowing Brandbright & the quality of their products if the NE open & GW Toad etc are anything to go by then these bogies will be OK. I have never been disappointed with any Brandbright product.

The only thing you have to watch out for with Brandbright is they usually supply the wheels uninsulated. But there is no way of knowing in this case. It will be the luck of the draw.

But don't take my word for it just make it an act of faith & good look with the bidding.

If you win it please post a decent photo of it because the auction house photo does not do it justice.

Have 'phoned Vectis and they will call me back when they unpack the lots at Rugby. They think however, that the coach only has one bogey, and no interior. It's a left over lot from the last sale when there were several similar coaches, with both bogeys, and this one with only one! I didn't know that Brandbright ever made carriage bogeys but obviously they did. Their stuff is always of excellent quality, as I know from their 16mm models and their gauge 3 wagons. I only wish they still supplied these bogeys!

Hello Robert

The bogies made by Brandbright were solid white metal sides with a brass spacer, pivoted on the spacer.
Very nice models and quite heavy.
I believe I bought the last pair they had just after I joined the G3 society, about nine years ago.
It was suggested that the person who cast the sides had died and the moulds had dissapeared.

It is a shame as I would have liked more.
