I hope the buyer tells us what it is.  Outside cylinders and valvegear ... Bassett Lowke ...  I can't think of one - can anyone else?  Not a Midland compound because it has outside valvegear.  Possible prototypes that come to mind include Schools or LNER Hunt or Shire, but B-L didn't make either in Gauge 3 ... did they?

Are we absolutely certain that it is a 4.4.0. The cylinder is quite a way in front of the driving wheel shown. Look at a picture of BL's GNR 2.6.0 Mogul Nr. 1000. The cylinder and linkage also looks to be of a similar shape to this model. (I'm probably wrong though.)

Id say definitely a 4-4-0. You can just make out the frame cutouts for the pilot wheels.

Hello All

Would go with the 4-4-0 . The bogie pivot under the cylinder block would not work for a pony truck .  You can also just make out the cut out for the back bogie wheels through the motion

So, what is it? Any Lowke experts here or is it not Lowke at all?

Hi Guys

Its not a schools class the frame shape at the front should be sloping at 45 degrees. The model has a quarter circle cut out on the frames above the front buffer beam. See the link below with a picture of 925 Cheltenham.

Maybe a 'bitsa'?
I can't find any outside geared 4-4-0 with 2 wide-spaced slidebars like that.

Well done Mark! As suspected, nothing to do with Lowke.

Just for the record, it sold for £74.
