Local auction surprise

You never know what might appear at a local auction and I was ten minutes too late yesterday to secure this. It was described as "large brass train" which I suppose it is! Sold for £280.

Just to be clear, that was £280 for the Prairie and two carriages.

Highly likely to appear again on a well-know web auction site in the near future, with an additional '0' on the price?

Yes, they are Chinese-made GRS Gauge 3.

Just shows that everyone should keep an eye on their local auction houses.

Well, I wasn't to far out..... 2x£550 (coaches) + £1250 (loco) = £2350

I shall be surprised if they sell at those prices : Anyone familiar with the GRS Prairie tank will tell you they are a bundle of trouble (bad Chinese motors in particular will cost another £150 to replace with a decent motor/gearbox and adding radio control and battery power will cost another £200 or more). The "B Set" coaches are prone to falling apart....poor soldered joints.

Wait a month or two and the price will likely fall a few hundred.

I have often wondered how much the models that I have made would sell for -at auction? If my executor made the cost of building them at auction and a few coppers more then I think that I would be happy with that...

Hopefully after fees they would make enough for a contribution to Great Ormand St.
