To LGB or not to LGB?

Following a visit to the AGM at the weekend I was inspired to search through the odds n sods box to see if a small prototype loco could be constructed as perhaps a 'starter' in gauge 3. An LGB Stainz chassis came to light, together with some Slaters' 3'2" drivers.

A short while later here is the result



- brass bearings in the plastic chassis, gears on the Slaters' axles and potentially looking okay and awaiting axle spacers, modified pickups and con-rods, etc. (possibility of using the original LGB ones as an example of what is possible?).

The reason for the post is this; have these chassis units been used to good effect before and given good service or use the motor and gears on a new chassis?

I can't help you with your actual query, but your project needs another 2 the same for a 12-wheel climax !

The (now discontinued) GRS kit for the Peckett industrial 0-4-0ST was supplied with a re-gauged LGB
chassis.

I have one (which I heavily modified and built as a Worthington's brewery Bagnall) which has been run only twice. First time was for a couple of hours at Ampthill and then on the Warton Road exhibition layout at the National Garden Railway Show (Peterborough) about 6 or 7 years ago.
On both occasions it performed faultlessly.

There are quite a few LGB conversions around, including one built as an LNER Z5 class (ex-GNoS 0-4-2T).
Mark Pretious has an example built as "Invincible" and that must have "clocked up" a good mileage by now!
