Hi all

We, that is Roger Salisbury and Tony Holland and I had a fettling day today to iron out the gremlins in the layout in readines for Warley. We set up 2 boards of Chale, the viaduct and the overbridge.

We sorted out the curved section which is now an actual 90 degrees as well as general scenery work, road surfacing, river surface preparation, tree planting, fitting fence posts and fencing in. The pictures enclosed are of poor quality as I forgot my camera so I used the camera on my phone.
One additional thing of fun to go onto the scenery is a plastic skeleton of a dinosaur thet is to be half buried in the scenery. Before you cry out toys toys, it is meant to be the Jurassic coast and its my trainset.

That last photo of the banana does suggest that railings are needed..

Yes you are right and it is in hand. The railings/walkway is to be of great importance partly for safety of the models as well as decorative. The flying banana did not actually overhang the confines of the viaduct walls, although it does come close. We also discovered the track radius is 8',6" and not 8' as originally thought.
So 8',6" with super elevation is getting close to 9' radius allowing for the gradual curvature of the track/transition curves.

I have today been down at Moors Valley using the facilities to sort out the odd jobs on the shallow boards of the curve (boards 1 & 4) They are now H framed together for transportation purposes. Some of the ballast has come loose on all four boards so I have a bit of work to do there.
I have also cut up the name board pads that go over the facia frontage with the layout sections names on them. These will include Blackgang, Burts Brewery, Military Road, St. Catherines Viaduct and Chale Halt.

I now need to do the carrying frames for the two viaduct boards (boards 2 & 3).

Water, water everywhere but not a drop to drink. Here is the Eezeee water from Woodland scenics. One whole packet used which I thought I would only need half of it. How wrong can you be.

I am beginning to ask myself, "What will happen first; will Mark finish his viaduct or will my webserver HDD be filled?"

I have no idea what a webserver HDD is but the viaduct needs to be completed by no later than mid November, as it all has to be reunited with the rest of the layout in the trailer in time for the NEC show.

So no pressure then. Just the road surface, the railings/walkway and carrying boxes for each of th viaduct boards in order to protect the delicate items such as the railings.

Michael Heavon's "St Ives" will also be there; I've not seen it, but as I know Peter Rogers did his 'B-Set' it should be good. I wonder if he has 'Thomas the Crank Engine' on his layout?

Hi

I have made a start on the railings/walkway for the viaduct. I have made the angle brackets from 5mm angle, the posts are 4mm square and 1.6mm dia rod for the horizontal. All of the items are from plastic and it is suprisingly strong. The wooden decking is made from the tea stirrers you get from posh coffee shops.
