:( I got all excited then I looked at the photos. Could I be wrong?  Cannot see the third cylinder and motion with the conjugated valve gear or am I mistaken?
This is not a nit pick as loco looks quite pretty, but when you are shelling out on a Gresley pacific the least you can expect is it to be all there. I guess one would have to imagine the Gresley "beat" as it puffs along with its 2 cylinders.
The search will continue.

I thought it looked a nicely constructed model but with no boiler ticket a risky buy.

I did think it might be worth converting to battery/electric (lots of space for cell packs) but for that total cost I would prefer a Stanier 5P5F or 8F slogging along with a long goods.

My fellow Members, ask not what your Society can do for you, ask what you can do for your Society.

I sort of agree Dave, but its under £2K and nicely finished.  Maybe the quality of model you are looking for is more like £4K?  or if new from Mike Pavie £8K+.

Almost all of the model A3s we see at GTGs have 2-cylinders - e.g. Lowke, Bonds etc - and they run very well, but I do agree its not quite right.

This vendor seems to get hold of a lot of models.  I know he buys at auction and sells at a high profit, so maybe we need an early warning system in places other than e-bay.

It has always been my dream to have a 3 cylinder Gresley type loco, I have never been a rivet counter but always count cylinders. Like wise I would be very unhappy with a 2 cylinder "King" or Duchess or Princess.

Yes converting it to battery electric is a possible alternative for those who have the nerve to rip it apart.

We can only dream.

However, a 2 cylinder Brit is a distinct possibility ;)

I personally know of only one 3 cylinder machine in G3/ 2 1/2" gauge. Namely the Schools class built buy our resident Doctor Allan. A very smooth and well engineered engine. So it can be done, its whether you are brave or mad enough to attempt it. I think a little of both would be advantagious.

I think all of Mike Pavie's Gresley Pacifics have the right number of cylinders.

Obviously you have not studied my collection of horrors.... As a good friend commented.

Six cylinders at 2,400 RPM at 45PSI driving a hand wound Gramme Ring Dynamo. 19 Amperes at 8 Volts... So far the top speed is 15cm per second.
