High quality 7-pole motors .... very, very, cheap

I have been offered (at a rock-bottom price) a quantity of the same motor that is being fitted to the Sentinel project locos.
These motors will require a gearbox but may be of interest if you are scratchbuilding a loco and are cobbling together your own gears.

I am not wanting to become involved in a "supply chain" but if you are SERIOUSLY interested in acquiring a number of these for personal use, you may like to participate in a syndicate and may register your interest by emailing me.
Alternatively, you may wish to buy a batch for re-sale and hope to make "a few bob" in the process.

If you can place an order for 50, they will cost just GBP3 per unit, reducing to GBP2 if 100 are ordered.
The minimum order would be for 20 at GBP5 per unit (all quoted prices exclude delivery/postage).
They will come with a 12 month warranty.

These have previously been sold at GBP25 per unit but the supplier has retired and now wishes to clear remaining stock.

To avoid "time-wasters" contacting the elderly supplier, I will only disclose details to serious applicants.

Specification as given to me:
7 Pole - Max voltage 15V DC
Shaft suspended on two ball races.
10.000 RPM without load.
Idle drain at 12 volts is 250mAh, without load.
Drive shaft diam 4mm.
Outer case diameter 28mm.
Length of case 50mm.
Fully sealed case suitable for garden layouts, remains dust free .
Case 1mm thick which supresses for radio control

Hi John

I am very interested in some of these as it appears that they will fit between wheel sets (just) to make axle hung motors for a diesel.  If you are getting an order together I would like 12 of them please.

Thanks

Phil Flint

Hi Phil,

If I can get to 50+ (I now have interest shown for at least 30) then I will arrange the order.
I have in mind to use some for a C0-C0 (LMS 10000).

Regards,
John.

Their use as axle hung motors is of interest to me, as I have a couple of DMU's planned, put me down for 8. Is anyone prepared to turn them into complete units, with gearbox, fitted to an axle, for a small fee?
Geoff.

Following further contact with the supplier, I can now confirm that if the total order exceeds 50, I have been offered the price of GBP2.50 per unit (if order were to reach 100, the price falls further to GBP 2.00 per unit).

John
This sounds the sort of thing our G3S shop could be buying in bulk, to service the needs of us individuals in dribs and drabs of one or two off.

By the way, if anyone wants a characterisation of these motors, ie speeds and current draw for various voltage steps, then I can do this easily for no charge, and publish the results.  I have done the same for some (even cheaper) quality motors sold by a local electronics shop in Derby for just £1.

Tim,

From last Newsletter, I understood the G3S to "be in the red"?
I am offering to secure them for members at the price they are being offered to me (which is a special price because the supplier is grateful for my efforts to find buyers).

If the G3S wants to buy a stock, it is welcome to contact me and I will see what can be arranged.

I am acting in this transaction as agent (for the supplier) not as principal.
The warranty is given by the supplier and is for 12 months from date of supply .... if the G3S were to hold a large stock, the warranty could well expire before they are sold.

These are cheap enough for anyone to buy a quantity to cover their needs for several years.

Regards,
John.

For now I think it's best to keep this simple.

John can get our immediate needs taken care of with a single, simple order and then (over time) if the Society wants to get involved, then of course it can do so. These things always seem to take time to discuss and arrange.

But right now, if anyone wants an excellent motor at a great price - then speak up and let's get on with it. John already has my order.

Nothing's ever Easy - At least the first time around.

Here are photos of this type of motor as fitted in Sentinel.

a bit tangential to the main topic, but how goes the Sentinel project?
Geoff.

Ian Hawkins

Hi John,

I'm interested in buying six of these motors.

IanHawkins

TLR

Hi John I would buy 6 of these as well.

Shaun.

I can now confirm that the total order has reached 71 which secures the price at GBP2.50 each plus postage.

If we can get to 100, then the price drops to GBP2.00 per unit.

Hi John, please add 6 motors to the order for me.

Cheers,
