The MEL building frame is a useful device for anyone with larger/heavier locos to work on. The laser cut parts save a lot of time and everything assembled fairly easily. I brazed (SIF-bronzed) the smaller parts together but struggled to get the larger plates hot enough for SIF, so finished the larger assemblies with silver solder (which was much easier to do).

However, Malcolm (of MEL) states that epoxy glues can be used to assemble the kit for anyone without a suitable propane torch. There is some simple turning also required and I didn't quite understand how the design was supposed to work in practice when it came to the 'bolts' that attach the revolving buffer stand-offs, so I modified mine to something that seemed better/easier to use but other than that it's been a very useful bit of kit and the laser cut parts saved a good deal of work...

Of course, it would have been better if Ian had sold his kit before I purchased mine.....   :-)
