Described as an LMS 4P compound but 'based upon' might be a better description.
Nevertheless, a substantial model for a 'Buy it Now' price which is not bad for anyone wanting a coal-fired loco.

Compared with a private sale - I think it's probably still a bit expensive John, especially since the Seller is making it clear there is no current Boiler Certificate. If the boiler won't pass muster - then it's not good value even at half the price.

By the way - I am aware of a coal-fired Sterling 8' Single - unpainted (still in the brass) but also unsteamed. The builder has passed away recently and the asking price is 1,000. I have seen the engine and it looks well built. Unfortunate circumstances - but there are good engines out there if you look for a private sale.

I do know of several Members who have purchased engines on e-Bay and been very pleased - but I think you do need to be careful, especially where it's a "Buy it now" (from a Dealer) where you are less much likely to get an engine at a bargain price. Again we are not too far away from the AGM in Feb - and most years there have been very nice engines sold there at the 'Bring & Buy' for reasonable prices - very often with current BC's and a clear knowledge of the previous owner/history.

If any Society Member is interested in the Sterling Single by the way - please email me for contact details.
Nothing's ever Easy - At least the first time around.

Ian,

As always 'caveat emptor' applies!

If the bolier is 'shot' then obviously it will be an expensive repair.
When comparing the price with an unbuilt kit from GRS (e.g. nearly 900GBP for an electric LMS 4F) it does look not look that expensive....but I agree there are probably better deals if you know where to look.

Regards,
John.
