Wagon turntables in use

Not really modelling, but I was fascinated to see this film of a wagon turntable in the 1930s.  What amazed me was how quick it was to use.  No wonder turntables remained in use for so long.

Sometimes we operate our models at a speed we believe to be realistic, but I'd like to see a model operated this fast!

I think you'll find that early cinematograhic cameras operated at a much slower frame rate than today - particulkarly if they did not record sound, thus making the speed of events much faster than was actually the case in reality in order to reduce flciker between frames.
The cinema industrys standard of 24fps was introduced in 1930.

Yes, thanks Doddy.  Judging by the walking speed of the man behind the van its not speeded up very much.  I think.

Ill health has slowed me down physically recently - it looked too fast for me to manage, perhaps people were much fitter in those days?  ;D
