well it's great to have another trader on board and lets hope if these sell, Lewis will consider other designs. i believe G3 modellers will like to try out other suppliers but will also stick to the regulars too. it can also have benefits that some traders may sell more chassis/components to go with these, in addition to their regular sales . maybe some could even liase and do a package with both parties items for a complete wagon ??

I agree with you Barry.  I've obviously not checked dimensions but I think this is now pretty good.  Its the best wagon to choose and being wood is easier to alter during the build into variants.  Ashley has kindly given me Lewis's contact details and I think he should be encouraged.

Will you be buying one Barry?  Every post-1923 model railway needs one (at least)!

yes i have the inners done today (i used superglue for starters with wood glue after - to save a long hold!) it's a very quick build and i'm sure will be an ideal starter kit,for those who have not built any g3 wagon kits before. i will be ordering more once i have the current one finished.

Richard, I suspect your wheels etc are laying there for the pictures, so you probably know this but ... the buffer guides are upside down.  The top rib stops short to give a rudimentary foot hold, whereas the bottom rib is full length.  Sorry.

In Hudson's books there are just a few pre-Grouping pictures of wagons very like that (wider top two planks), but its really a post-1923 wagon, so you would be better to buy some post-1923 axleboxes and springs.  They are available in Gauge 3 - Kerching!  :D

They were the only bits I had at the time, it's all just for the pic, I have a shopping list 😎

Well done Ashley.  A small detail for future reference, the brake gear each side is independent, so there is no crossbar, though I accept that on a model it adds strength.  Crossbars were used on some types of brakes so that the lever one side operated brakes on both sides, but not those simple wagons.

Modellers may find http://igg.org.uk/rail/4-rstock/04arstock2f.htm useful as it explains the history and much detail of wagon brake development within the UK.  Other pages accessed through the index page provide much other useful detail.
