In 1948 there was "The Exchange Trials" run by Riddles... It will soon be possible to duplicate part of the"Passenger" tests as we will have thanks to Kingscale the required locomotives.

An A4 Pacific.
A King.
A Coronation Scot.
A Merchant Navy.

This time there would be no "coal" "water" or"tender" disputes...

Just one problem.....I believe the Kingscale "Merchant Navy" will be in rebuilt form (air-smoothed casing removed and with Walschaerts valve gear)?

BR did not rebuild any Bulleid "spam cans" until the mid 1950's.

I can remember watching them at Wimbledon in the early/mid 50's and they were still in original form, thundering through at the head of the "Bournemouth Belle" and the named Southampton boat trains (e.g. "The Cunarder", etc.).

In the original trials the Coronation Scot had the streamlined shell removed. Initial design tests for Spam Cans and other SR locos were made of plywood and doped "double duck" canvas. So if you really insist I could cut a shell out of some scraps and you would have a real one!!!
