Showmans engine

I see there is a rather nice 1/24 showman's engine around, a model of 'General Gough'.  Unfortunately at £300 it is a tad over my budget for a lineside item or wagon load, but it would look good!  There's one on e-bay now.

I'm still looking for pre-Grouping road vehicles with very littee success.  There are a couple of Ford T variants but that's all.  A nice GS Leyland or Thornycroft lorry would be good, or a horse-drawn commercial vehicle.  If anyone spots one please post the details.

Even 1930s vehicles are scarce unless you like Rolls Royce, Duesenberg or Mercedes - plenty of the around!

£300 for a showmans, thats cheap. If you visit Dorset Steam Fair where the have a line up of immaculately turned out showmans each nearing the 1million mark, 300 does suddenly seam quite cheap.
If you were really clever and i know that you are, design it on 3D CAD and print it out on a 3D printer, same goes for the cars that you want.

Thank you Mark - I'll bear that in mind - not!  I know my limits and the compound curves of a motor vehicle are beyond me.  I would love a model of one of my older cars but they are just too complex.  A model car company does want to scan one for a model this year, but only 1:43 - damned!

Scan the 1.43 model into a 3D scanner and increase size to 1.22 and you can create the model you want. Keith Smith has been creating on 3D CAD with his DMU unit alternate ends. Compound curves are of no problem to this system. worth checking out.

Mark,

You a quite correct, compound curves are not a problem, the only issue then is of copyright, but yes all is possible

Hello All

If any one has the urge to do a steam road loco , Please would they do the run of the mill stuff like an agricultural engine or a road loco . Showman's engines are a bit like running a King up a G .W. Branch line . I do like them though ( The Showmans engine that is ! ) I may also be able to lay my hands on prototype info on a big Aveling Roller if any one wants any help .
