I am considering producing transfers for cement vans in the liveries of "Ferrocrete" and "Blue Circle", both being trade marks of the Associated Portland Cement Manufacturing Company ("APCM").

The transfers would be suitable for application to "Iron Mink" vans (similar to GWR diagram V6 kit obtainable from Williams Models) finished in lemon yellow livery, the transfer lettering being blue.

How much interest is there in some of these colourful vans?

John.

I have a large tin of Humbrol gloss which I bought several years ago with the intention of finishing a tank wagon in "Shell Lubricating Oil" livery (but finished it in National Benzole instead).

I am sure it will be the correct shade but am away from home at present so cannot quote the Humbrol number.

My 7mm "Blue Circle" Cement Van was painted using a spray can of Ford "Daytona Yellow", which looks about right once finished with matt varnish after applying the transfers. Think it may have been the colour recommended in the instructions.

Surprisingly, as it was the colour of a Capri I bought new in the 70's, it is still available from Halfords at £6.49 per 300ml can (just checked on the internet), which I am sure will be enough for a couple of wagons.

The truth about your mis-spent youth coming out now Derek - Ford Capri - happy days!

Hi Mike,

My mis-spent youth was a thing of the past by then! The Capri was selected for its hatch-back - easy access for the baby carry-cot!!

So nothing to do with the sweeney then

Have just ordered from "Just Like The Real Thing" a spray can of "Blue Circle Cement Yellow" (last item on the page). http://www.justliketherealthing.co.uk/cellulose-paint-p-11.html?cPath=26

This is an "end of range" item reduced to 12.50GBP.....so there may not be many left. Suggest you hurry if you want one!

Wow, well done John.

Lets hope it has been discontinued due to lack of demand and not criticism of the colour!

Mike

The complete colour range of spray can paints has been discontinued and remainder are all being sold at discounted price (possibly because they are cellulose paints and I believe there may be an EU reg banning them except in industrial environment).

Some colours already "sold out" (e.g. GW greens).

Hello Ian & All

Unlikely , Germany has just said that it intends to close it's nuclear plants and build 20 new coal fired power stations to replace them !

Now that's an idea for development - a nuclear powered Gauge '3' loco!!

Any thoughts Ralph?
