Carriages & NPCS / The GWR Carriage Bonanza!
Last post by John Candy - Jan 23 2026 09:41With my latest additions to the available 3D printed range, there are now 10 GWR passenger carriages to choose from (as well as 9 GWR non-passenger coaching stock).
The passenger stock consists of 3 clerestory, 5 Toplight, and 2 Concertina diagrams.
Clerestory : C17 D29 E73
Toplight : C29 C30 E83 E88 F14
Concertina : C27 D34
Examples of all these types survived WW2 and most lasted into the mid-1950's. Some were converted to Camping Coaches and lasted much longer, stationed in the yards of popular holiday destinations.
If you have (or are hoping to have) a "Saint", "Star","Castle" or "King", then a mixed rake of the above would make a stunning express formation. If the demand exists for these types, I may then add a "Concertina" H13 dining car.
The aim is to, eventually, have all of these offered as kits by New Land 3D (Anthony Terranova), as well as my other LMS/LNWR/MR/LNER/GCR and SR designs.
Preparation of these as complete kits takes a not inconsiderable amount of effort and time and the potentially most popular examples are being prioritised. Expressing interest/ pre-ordering kits from New Land 3D will see your choices move up the list.

Last post by John Candy - Jan 23 2026 06:58After a couple of months of delay, working on three additional LNER Gresley coaching stock (D4, D23 and D212) and several BR standard wagons (all intended for eventual release as kits by New Land 3D) I have now returned to printing the GWR Concertina stock.
The sides of the C27 All Third and D43 Brake 3rd are shown in primer. It is very difficult to photograph such long items indoors and under artificial light, so only close-up shots of sections of each type are shown, to highlight the detail. These are 70ft carriages (945 mm in G3) and each side consists of five modules, so as to fit, comfortably, onto a 250mm printer bed. The modules include the doors printed integrally, leaving just the bolections around the glazing to be printed separately and inserted into the openings.

Locomotives (steam outline) / LBSCR D1
Last post by 753 - Jan 22 2026 12:27I do like a tank engine, here is the latest to add to the collection a Stroudley LBSCR D1, which is a larger version of a Terrier.
Whilst 3D printing is useful for more complex shapes and multiples, it is satisfying to use traditional ways to build locos. The engine was built using a CNC milling machine, the wheels were cut from 8mmm ali plate, frames 1.5mm steel and brass for the body. Powered by a home brewed motor /gearbox with nylon bevel gears.

Last post by yamie1900 - Jan 22 2026 09:54John I have just started 3D printing I did a bit of research on you tube watching a lot of how too do videos After speaking to John Candy last year at the AGM I took the plunge it seamed just download John Candys designs and push print basically he was right. Main thing is learning what ever printer you purchase follow the instructions.
As regarding Tinkered that's what I have been in the process of learning started with more You Tube videos its basically playing with different shapes my best attempt so far is turbo air vents for carriages.
as a process
1 buy a machine
2 down load 3D stl file
3 slice it< this is the software that the printer understands.
I have a P1S bambu labs printer and use Bambu labs studio software to manipulate the file then slice and send to printer.
4 wait for printer to do its thing hey presto that's it.
5 You tube helped me a lot though

Last post by John Branch - Jan 21 2026 11:50I would like to learn more about 3D printing. The first step as I see it, is to discover if I have the aptitude (or patience) to acquire the knowledge. Looking at various reviews, it looks like "Tinkercad" is suitable for me. Does anyone have experience with this, and can you recommend a book that explains how to use it in a reasonably clear manner?

A G3 Society member has for sale a P1S printer which has been used to print the sides and ends of just one carriage (around 20 hours use).
He is now disposing of his railway for health reasons and has no further use for the printer.
Can be collected from East Sussex or willing to travel up to 60 miles to deliver.
Price sought 300GBP.
